Meet Our Physiotherapist Zeb Ariaratnam
Why did you become a Physiotherapist?
I initially had no idea what I wanted to do after finishing school! It came time to make a decision and becoming a physiotherapist sounded like a good idea. Luckily for me, I loved studying it at uni and have loved being a physio ever since. Now I can’t think of a better job for me!
What sort of patients do you most enjoy helping?
I love helping patients with chronic pain who are motivated to improve their health. This includes those with fibromyalgia and other complex and chronic conditions. It is so rewarding to see patients get little wins, whether it be something as simple as being able to walk up and down stairs again, or being able to travel and go on hikes overseas.
In particular I love treating hip and knee pain, it can be so limiting and it is great to see people get stronger and moving again after an injury.
Interesting things you have done in your career?
I’ve done lots of mentoring and teaching of new graduate physios. It is something I am really passionate about and I love being able to help others in the profession. It is so rewarding and I’ve found that you can learn so much from others too, no matter how experienced you are!
What do you do to keep fit?
I love playing indoor soccer on weekends and going to the gym! I also go through phases of being motivated to get out for a run, and other times when I’m not a fan. I still do it anyway because I know it’s good for me!
Greatest sporting achievement?
Probably when my indoor soccer team won a game. That might not seem like much, but given we don’t win very often, getting a win feels amazing!
If you could jump on a plane and visit one city, which would it be?
Florence, Italy. I went in 2019 and it was such a lovely place with lovely people. The food was also amazing!
Favourite thing to do outside of work?
I love playing sport and keeping active. I also love watching the AFL, but only when Essendon are winning! When I have time to myself I also love playing piano to relax.
Where did you grow up?
Born and raised in Melbourne! Grew up in Mitcham.
What is your food weakness?
Pasta is most definitely my food weakness and also my go to menu item! While I don’t eat a lot of sweet stuff, I am a sucker for white chocolate. Some say it isn’t real chocolate but you can’t deny it tastes amazing!
