Meet Our Myotherapist Natalie Holmes
Why did you become a Myotherapist?
I originally became a Remedial Massage Therapist to help people with their pain and improve their quality of movement. Over the years I have seen a lot of muscular dysfunctions and pathologies, but I always wanted to learn more to help my patients achieve their best outcomes. Since studying Myotherapy, I have increased my knowledge and tools to be able to help patients more effectively.
What sort of patients do you most enjoy helping?
enjoy helping people who want to help themselves. I am passionate about educating patients about their injuries and helping them improve their range of movement. I enjoy helping older active people achieve their fitness goals. Being active at any age is important, but particularly for older people. I especially love meeting people in their 50s and 60s who are training for marathons or have high intensity gym routines. It really shows that age is just a number and fitness can be gained at any age as long as you are committed.
Interesting things you have done in your career?
2017 I had to opportunity to go to India with a group of other Myotherapists to assist rural villagers with their musculoskeletal pains. A lot of these people had never had any form of treatment from anyone and the pain so many of them had to live through was amazing to witness. Being able to give them some relief, even for a short while, was an incredibly rewarding experience.
What do you do to keep fit?
I go to the gym 3-5 times a week. I have my own program that I have developed myself which keeps me in good physical condition for treating! I also enjoy reformer Pilates as it helps me with my core stability.
Greatest sporting achievement?
I haven’t played a team sport since high school ,but my greatest fitness achievement was a consistent gym routine and health plan for a year in which I lost just under 10kg of excess weight, while becoming more toned and stronger.
If you could jump on a plane and visit one city, which would it be?
THERE ARE TOO MANY!!!! I love travel, experiencing new cultures and learning about history from each country’s point of view… AND FOOD!! Every country has their own unique cuisines. Vietnam is next on my list as I haven’t been to South East Asia before.
Favourite thing to do outside of work?
Get out and about with my partner. Whether that includes going for a hike, visiting an art exhibition or going for a coffee in a new suburb, just having fun together and exploring Melbourne and all it has to offer.
Where did you grow up?
HOBART! Woo! It is a lovely little “city” with a great community feel. Good trees too!
What is your food weakness?
CHEESE! If I could I will put cheese on anything. ANY cheese. Blue cheese, cheddar, brie, parmesan, all cheese is good cheese!
