could I benefit from Regular Myotherapy?
Whether you have an ongoing injury, are active, sedentary, or looking to improve your wellbeing, regular myotherapy is something to consider.
During our daily lives, movement can become repetitive. Whether that is from continuous sitting, mouse use on a computer, prolonged periods of stationary standing, or bending to pick up a heavy load, our body becomes conditioned to these movements and adapts. This adaptation can create tension in the muscles used most, while muscles that are not so involved in these everyday movements become “deconditioned.”
A Bit of Anatomy:
Bend your elbow. Now straighten it. The primary mover, in this case the elbow bender (bicep), is known as the “agonist.” Many muscles function with an opposition. In this case, the elbow straightener (triceps), which is known as the “antagonist.” Every movement involves multiple muscle recruitment to produce the desired force required. When the agonist gets tight, it can send out warning signals to the brain, which our brain interprets as pain. There may not be any actual damage present, but the pain you feel can be very real.
The major cause of soft tissue muscular discomfort is due to some muscles working overtime and some sitting back and doing much less. Over time, this can lead to:
- Inflammation
- Restricted joint mobility
- Joint pain
- Bursitis
- Headaches
- Back pain
- Shallow breathing
At Boost Health Collective, our Myotherapists can not only improve your muscular function and movement but can also preempt underlying issues that you may not be aware exist. Muscles tend to move in “patterns” of recruitment. A Myotherapist will be able to determine whether some muscles are working more or less. Our Myotherapists will assess, seek out, and release the muscular tension causing your issues and provide exercises to retrain muscles that may not be “pulling their weight,” allowing movement to be restored to its normal range.
