What is Paraffin Wax Therapy and how does it help?
Paraffin wax baths are a form of heat therapy providing relief for painful muscles and joints, whilst increasing blood flow to the lower limbs. It can increase joint range of motion for those suffering from osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and other joint related conditions.
Using a Medical-grade paraffin wax ensures retention of heat within the wax and ability to transfer to the skin whilst avoiding blistering or burning. When applying the wax to the skin, it solidifies and transfers a significant amount of heat to both the superficial layers of skin and deeper structures of the foot. This widens the blood vessels, increasing circulation to the feet. As a result the outer layer of the skin is softened, leaving a smooth finish for those with rough, dry or scaly skin.
Benefits of Paraffin Wax Therapy:
- increases circulation to the lower limbs and feet
- opens pores of the skin
- softens hard and thick skin, making it easier to remove
- reduces stiffness within painful or achy joints.
Paraffin wax baths can be effective in treating conditions such as:
- chilblains
- Raynauds
- arthritis
- dry skin
- cracked heels
- joint pain
- muscle fatigue and pain
- fibromyalgia
- chronic skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis
How does Paraffin Wax Therapy help with Chilblains?
Chilblains is a painful condition when the blood vessels in the skin become inflamed when exposed to cold temperatures. It can cause blistering, itchiness, swelling and redness on the toes or hands.
Wax baths can be extremely effective for patients that experience chilblains.
We usually recommend 3-4 treatments during the winter months to promote circulation and reduce the onset of symptoms.
